The village of Halfweg owes its name to its location halfway between the cities of Amsterdam and Haarlem. Halfweg is located in the municipality of Haarlemmerliede and Spaarnwoude. A very striking landmark of Halfweg are the two silos of the former sugar factory. The sugar factory, including surrounding land forms the basis of the redevelopment called Sugar City.

The apartment complex Torenzicht is located near the railway station Halfweg-Zwanenburg.
